A splendid apartment rental in Tuscany, Italy, Tintoretto is a modern flat, recently renovated to the highest of standards.
Located on the first floor of one of the most central squares of Lucca, very close to Piazza San Michele, this apartment is sunny, peaceful and full of light. It consists of one large entrance hall, a living room, a studio, a large fully equipped kitchen, one double bedroom, one twin bedroom, and two bathrooms.
The apartment is completely new — though the owners have artfully maintained its antique charm during the renovation — and it has been carefully and tastefully furnished.
The apartment has all the modern comforts and is equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, large satellite TV and telephone.
Best of all, this apartment puts you at the heart of what is arguably the most elegant and relaxed of the Tuscan capitals. Less popular with tourists than Florence or Pisa, Lucca contains — within its massive fourteenth century defensive walls — real treasures for the seeker after Classical, medieval and Renaissance Italy.
Lucca dates back to the Etruscan civilisation which first colonised this part of Italy (and which gave its name to Tuscany). The Etruscans were supplanted by the Romans, who formalised the street plan of the town and laid out the amphitheatre in the centre of the city, which survives to this day. The Roman grid was then complicated by the higgledy-piggledy laying out of winding medieval lanes: delightful days can be had wandering off the beaten track, down cobbled streets which end up at the door of a Romanesque church or a medieval palazzo.
[ local map | map of Tuscany]But Lucca is a town where the old and new live side by side ... it’s a very long way from being a museum piece. The ancient walls of the amphitheatre contain apartments lived in by the Lucchese themselves, while those medieval streets house some superb shops, cafes, bars and restaurants ... Lucca offers something to explore and discover everyday.
