Vacation rentals Lucca

Casa Domenico forms part of an 18th century villa, four miles north of Lucca. These Lucca vacation rentals are handily located for local food shops and lie a mile from the village of Marlia.

The house was once the country estate of the Costa family of Genoa (owners of the Costa Cruise Line). You enter a large courtyard from the local road, go past a farmhouse (where a caretaker/carpenter lives today) and pass some old farm buildings. Go through the antique wrought-iron gates and you enter the secluded villa garden. The house stands just inside the entrance and is about 80 yards from the main villa, connected by a lawn and a row of trees.

The ground floor has a large living area with a single sofa, dining corner, and a new Tuscan-style chestnut wood kitchen with modern equipment. From the kitchen there is a door to a covered patio with a beautiful antique terracotta pavement and a beamed ceiling.

On the patio, there is an extraordinary medieval well, lined with large river stones; the opening is level with the floor. An iron grill and heavy glass with a light inside allows you to see the superb workmanship of this old structure. The covered patio can be used for outdoor dining, even when it rains.

The first floor (upstairs) has a double bedroom with access to a reading room with a double sofa bed and internet connection. An additional bed is available. There is a single bedroom, and a bathroom with a shower. All bedroom windows have screens.

The house has been completely renovated in traditional Tuscan style. Terracotta, stone and wood elements, along with simple but comfortable furnishings, give Casa Domenico a warm, cosy atmosphere. All the windows have mosquito screens. A telephone, colour TV and washing machine are included. Maid service is available at €8/hour.

This Lucca vacation rental has a large garage with parking space and laundry corner. There is a garden lawn, furnished with armchairs and an umbrella. One section of the garden has organic herbs, which you are free to pick. The property is just 100 yards from the bus stop to the historic centre of Lucca and the rail station, a journey taking 20 minutes.

The entirely fenced garden, lawns and pine trees, cover 1500m² and are shared by all the guests.

This Lucca vacation rental lies in Marlia, an area famous for grand old villas and their formal gardens, many open to the public for visits. Take a tour of the local farms, to sample wine and Lucca virgin olive oil. A 10-minute walk takes you to the town centre of Marlia, with its shops and family-run restaurants. A 20-minute drive brings you to the Country Club and its well-kept swimming pool. The sandy white beaches of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi are easy to reach in half an hour on the motorway.
