Apartment Fondora - countryside flat in the hills around Lucca, Tuscany

This apartment in Tuscany sits in beautiful countryside outside the historic city of Lucca.

The property is a comfortable apartment sleeping up to six within a restored fourteenth century farmhouse. The farmhouse is now divided into five apartments; it forms part of the estate of a beautiful fourteenth century villa buried in the lush rolling hills west of Lucca.

The area, known as Pieve Santo Stefano, is one of the most beautiful around Lucca; it’s famous for its vineyards and olive oil as well as being only a ten-minute drive to the city walls. From here the old Camaiore road makes a picturesque route to the Versilian coast in just 20 minutes. Access to the apartment is along a majestic cypress-lined driveway. Just a few steps from the house is the stunning swimming pool, where you can cool off after a hectic day's sightseeing and shopping. Lie back and spot the buzzards soaring overhead!

The interior is typically rustic Tuscan style, with old chestnut beams and cotto floors, comfortably furnished to complement the style of the farmhouse. The small garden has fabulous views over Lucca; marvel at the glorious sunsets whilst sipping a glass of chilled prosecco. In the evening, the twinkling lights of Lucca and the surrounding silhouetted hills provide a magical canvas.

Accommodation comprises three bedrooms (two doubles and a twin), a bathroom and a kitchen/dining room. This last has an oven, fridge, dishwasher and washing machine. The house has its own garden with shady wisteria-clad pergola and barbecue. The 15 x 8 metre swimming pool is shared with the four other owners, and is open from May to October. There is a children’s play area, and a table tennis table adjacent to the swimming pool. There is a riding school a kilometre away. The surrounding hills are excellent for cycling and trekking.

There are three excellent restaurants within ten minutes walk, and the nearest supermarket is five minutes by car, in Sant Alessio. You’ll find several fattorias within a three kilometre radius, at which excellent wine, olive oil and honey can be purchased.

Lucca is 7km, Pisa airport 25 minutes drive, the seaside (Versilia) 20 minutes, Florence 40 minutes. Weekly prices are as follows: January to March €700, April €800; May €1000; June €1100; July and August €1200; September €1000; October €800; November and December €700. Included are clean sheets, bath towels, a bottle of the estate’s own olive oil. An infant’s cot and high chair (plus toys) are available on request. Rental period is from Saturday to Saturday but shorter breaks are available upon request.
