In the seaside resort of Lido di Camaiore on the Versilian Riviera, this three-star hotel makes a great starting point for trips to Florence, Siena, Livorno and the Cinque Terre.
All the rooms at the Hotel Giusy have a private bathroom, telephone, colour satellite TV, air-conditioning and balcony. There is also a reading room and TV room, a large garden and covered parking. There is a bar, and a restaurant with an à la carte menu featuring Tuscan specialities, and open from May to August. Tordelli di ricotta, gnocchi di spinaci e semolino, penne alla buttera, stuzzichini di salvia, farro, crostini di cavolo nero, bistecche alla fiorentina, pollo con i funghi, cacciucco alla livornese, risotto con le erbe, and tagliorini in brodo di pesce are just a few of the traditional dishes on the menu. All are complemented by an excellent wine list.

The situation of the hotel is perfect. The Versilian Riviera is a huge draw for Italians and visitors alike, and just to the south of here lies Viareggio; Tuscany’s major seaside resort, it has an elegant palm-fringed avenue running the length of the promenade. A collection of Liberty style facades, designed by the leader of Italian art nouveau, Galileo Chini, line the way.
The city of Lucca is just 20km away and is a real delight for visitors. Set above its complete set of mediaeval walls (and surrounded by a grassed defensive moat) Lucca is impressive enough on first sight. But explore a little more and you’ll learn to love this city. With narrow winding streets dedicated to the pedestrian rather than the car, you can spend hours wandering, finding little churches, museums and mediaeval buildings. You can rest and refresh at some lovely cafes, bars and very good restaurants. And there’s excellent shopping here too – with chic clothes stores as well as the essential grocers and supermarkets.
Pisa and its airport is a similar distance. There is the Leaning Tower of course, but much more besides. The Tower itself lies at the centre of the marvellous Campo dei Miracoli, where the Duomo, Baptistery and Camposanto combine to form a spectacular quarter of mediaeval architecture - quite unmissable.
Between them, they provide enough for several holidays, but should you want to explore further you’ll find Florence 90km away, Siena 140km, Milan 270km, Venice 350km and Rome 370km. And that’s before you discover the extraordinary coastal villages of the Cinque Terre.
