Lying just 500 metres from the walls of this ancient city, the hotel is a perfect base for your explorations of Lucca. One of Tuscany’s most enjoyable cities, the town was an ancient Etruscan centre before the invasion of the Romans, who laid out a street grid which survives to this day. There is even a surviving Roman amphitheatre at the heart of the town ... now the venue for regular markets, and with shops and apartments occupying the ancient walls.
The flavour of Lucca is predominantly medieval though, with Romanesque churches, a fine duomo (cathedral) and palazzi from the 13th and 14th centuries lining the narrow, cobbled streets. Lucca also has fine restaurants, bars and shops ... you can spend entire days just wandering the streets and soaking up the atmosphere of this lovely little city. And then of course there are the walls. The massive ramparts that surround the town — originally there to protect Lucca from invasion by city rivals such as Florence and Pisa — now make a marvellous vantage point. You can stroll, jog or cycle among the parklands that top the walls and gaze down into the town or out to the mountains beyond.

And when you’ve had enough of galleries, museums, churches and ancient monuments (though a dozen holidays wouldn’t be enough to exhaust the possibilities of the region) you can head for the nearby beaches of the Versilian Riviera, and relax in the Mediterranean sun. Or head inland, to the nearby mountains of Abetone (which has good skiing) and the beautifully rugged Garfagnana.
Depending on season, prices range from EURO €45 to €50 for a single room and from €60 to €70 for a double. Breakfast is €3 - €5. Special price from November to April.
