Little House in Verni is the perfect description of this renovated chestnut barn set in the hill village of Verni nestling in the Apuane natural park in the heart of the Garfagnana. Only 25 km north of Lucca, this is a paradise for walkers or anyone looking for a tranquil escape from the hustle of everyday life.
The barn has been beautifully renovated to offer comfortable holiday accommodation for up to three adults (it is not suitable for children). There is a small double bedroom and a single bedroom, a charming living/dining room with fireplace and fully equipped kitchen, and a cantina for walking boots and a washing machine. The house is very well appointed and there is a small breakfast terrace with wonderful views of the Apennines, Barga and the Serchio valley.
Verni is a delightful small village with a restaurant and a pizzeria only 5 minutes walk away. This is a 'text-book' hill top Tuscan village, all ancient stone and narrow streets (so narrow that you can't get a car into the village - park just outside and walk in from there). The small town of Gallicano is a short drive down the hill and has shops, banks and all you need if you don't want to stray further afield, while the excellent train service from here offers access to the whole of Tuscany and beyond.
Rental is Euro 500 per week inclusive of gas, electricity and linens. Central heating is charged on consumption during Spring and Autumn. Airport pickup available on request.
