This is a lovely part of Tuscany for a peaceful country holiday - a tranquil land of wooded hills, perfect for long walks, hill climbing, horse riding, and fishing in the nearby lake. A delightfully cool breeze is a splendid relief during the summer months, especially after a day on the beach or exploring the sun-baked lowlands. A shopping centre (supermarket, bank, cleaners, petrol station) is only 5km away.

Lucca (12km) is an unspoilt city of winding, shop-lined streets, its centre still completely encircled by massive mediæval walls. Lively yet not tourist-driven, the city has excellent facilities and numerous churches, museums and splendid towers to visit.
Lucca has excellent public transport and motorway links, and is within easy reach of Pisa, with its Leaning Tower and airport, and the fabulously wealthy Tuscan capital of Florence, cradle of the Renaissance and one of Italy's most beautiful cities.
Sun-seekers are only 20km from the beaches of the Versilian Riviera and the late-nineteenth century Liberty bathing establishments, fish restaurants and nightclubs of Viareggio - a city renowned for its splendid carnival. Holiday makers who prefer a little less heat should consider exploring the natural parks and caves of the Garfagnana, a land of dense alpine woods lightly scattered with mediæval settlements, churches and ruined watch towers.
