The Azienda Agricola Biologica Nico is very close to the Lucca plain, the sea of Versilia and the Apuan Alps. It was started from the need to ‘reawaken’ an abandoned farm and from a deep love for nature and the farming tradition. The premises of the present Agriturismo was a stopping place for the pilgrims travelling from France to Rome along Via Francigena in centuries and millennia past. The house is completely surrounded by woods, cultivated fields, meadows and olive groves. The daily life progresses in a peaceful atmosphere, which makes you feel as if you are living in those past days.

Here they grow vegetables to organic principles, saving the precious winter rains to water the vegetables gardens in summer, using solar and wood power to heat the water and the flats; sewers are cleared using willows, bulrush, iris and reeds. This farm is an ongoing organic experiment in promoting environmental protection – to this end, your hosts will give you biodegradable and biological products for daily use. Around the house there are trekking routes, allowing you to visit small old towns and Romanesque churches in the adjacent hills, as well as ancient mule-tracks. Guests can take part in the activity of the farm (bread baking, jam making and sawing). There are a couple of horses and other domestic animals. The house is furnished with a wood oven, hammocks, and a large terrace where you can enjoy typical products or appreciate reading at your leisure.

From the Agriturismo it is easy to reach a number of important historical tourist and seaside towns: Lucca 15km; the Versilian coast with Pietrasanta and Massa Carrara 18km; the mountains of the Garfagnana 35km; Florence 80km and Pisa 45km. Nearby services include a supermarket, post office, bank, petrol station, a newspaper shop, a laundry, two food shops, a bakery, a butcher's, estate agents, confectionery, clothes shop, hairdressers, pizzeria, pharmacy, garages and a tyre shop.
