The Apartment
Villa La Scassatina's apartment, suitable for two guests, occupies what was once the wine cellar. The apartment has an independent entrance and a sunny dining terrace with views over the surrounding chestnut-forested hills.
The accommodation consists of typical Tuscan kitchen/living room, a dressing room, a fully appointed bathroom and a bedroom with two comfortable single beds. There is convection heating for the winter months and facilities include satellite TV and a VCR. The apartment can be taken with the main villa, or rented separately in low season.
The swimming pool
The large swimming pool is 1.2m deep and enjoys day long sunshine and spectacular views. It is surrounded by a grassy terrace with a shower, a table, sunloungers and chairs. Underwater and garden lighting enhance the pleasure of evening swims.
Lucca and Tuscany
This is a lovely part of Tuscany, an area of terraced olive groves and vineyards, ancient farmhouses, wineries and village churches. The villa is on Lucca's Strada del Vino, on the section linking the up-and-coming vineyards of Montecarlo and Valgiano.
20 minutes in the car will see you in Lucca, a lovely little city of narrow streets encircled by well-preserved mediæval walls. Lucca's museums, churches and markets are well worth a few days of exploration, and with excellent facilities, the city will be able to cope with any of your holiday requirements.
Pisa, with its airport and Leaning Tower, is only 40 minutes away, as are the sandy beaches of Viareggio and the Versilian Riviera. An hour will get you to the cliff-side villages of the Cinque Terre, or to the marble quarries of Carrara which supplied most of the Renaissance masters. Florence, capital of Tuscany and one of Italy's most beautiful cities, is also only an hour away.

Prices include: firewood for barbeque, pizza oven and fireplaces; luxury cotton bed, bath and pool linen; weekly change of linen and basic cleaning (for stays exceeding one week).
A gourmet chef is available to prepare a five course, authentic Tuscan meal for your party and guests. The approximate cost is €250 for eight, excluding wine. A simpler meal is available for slightly less. Please make arrangements as early as possible prior to occupancy. As a special offer this year, the villa is offering a complimentary five course dinner to guests booking two or more weeks.
Telephone/Fax are provided - the cost of calls will be added to your bill at the end of the stay. Extra cleaning/ironing service available by arrangement. An initial shopping service is available if you would like supplies laid in for your arrival. Winter central heating is charged according to consumption. All optional services are payable locally.
