This created the Lake of Vagli, which conceals an entire abandoned village in the depths of its waters. The lost hamlet is Fabbriche di Careggine, founded around the 13th century by a group of blacksmiths who emigrated here from the north of Italy. Though submerged by the waters of the dam in 1946, the hamlet appears, as if by magic, once every ten years, when the basin is emptied for maintenance purposes. For a brief while it is possible to go and walk its streets and even enter the houses and the small church.

The Lake of Vagli is also famous for its fascinating geographic position among the majestic peaks of the Apuan Alps, and for the boat and canoe excursions you can take upon its magnificent waters. On a spur surrounded by the water rises the old village of Vagli Di Sotto, where the lovely Romanesque Church of San Regolo can be admired. In the new part of the Village there is another example of Romanesque architecture, the small church of Sant’Agostino, whose humble and severe appearance is accentuated by its rugged stone construction. And in the heart of this Village lies Vagli Cottage.

On the ground floor is the entrance, the spacious kitchen with dining area and the living room with two comfortable chairs, an open fireplace and a satellite TV. On the first floor are two double bedrooms, one a twin and the other a double, and a bathroom with a shower.

The most interesting feature of this cottage is the upper terrace overlooking the Lake and the peaks of the Apuan Alps: the view is absolutely unforgettable. The Garfagnana is the natural park of Tuscany, Italy, and the views do not disappoint. On the ground floor is a lovely balcony. Both the balcony and the terrace will be provided with table and chairs for your relaxing moments. This house is built exclusively of stone. It has been recently restructured and furnished with extreme care. There are terracotta floors and wood beamed ceilings.
