The cottage is part of the Villa Ghiaia, set in an expanse of terraced olive groves and vineyards between Lucca and the Versilian Riviera. There is a private garden, and shared use of a well-kept swimming pool and traditional solarium where guests can top up their tans end enjoy the panoramic views.
This part of Tuscany offers the perfect solution for visitors who want to see the sights but want to dodge the tourist traps. The beaches of Versilia (20km) are a major draw, and Lucca (18km) with its monumental walls is one of Italy's prettiest cities - a mediaeval maze of winding streets, Romanesque churches and palaces with excellent shopping facilities.
Pisa (30km) is an obvious attraction and has the nearest airport, but you will also be within easy daytripping distance of the Cinque Terre, Florence, Volterra, San Gimignano and the vineyards of Chianti. Nature lovers and birdwatchers will be drawn to the coastal lagoons and reserves south of Viareggio, or may wish to do some walking or mountain biking in the alpine parks to the north.
