Palazzo Agostini
The Bed & Breakfast is located in Palazzo Agostini, also known as Palazzo dell' Ussero, with its fifteenth century façade and remains of the ancient city walls dating back to 1155, when Pisa was an important Maritime republic. The façade is late-Gothic, the forerunner of the Renaissance style which was to emerge in fifteenth century Italy.
The name of the building comes from the coffee rooms of Caffè dell'Ussero, an historic meeting place founded on 1 September 1775. The cafe was previously an inn, the Locanda dell'Ussero. Many famous and distinguished guests have stayed here, among them Carlo Goldoni in 1744, Giacomo Casanova in 1760, Count Alfieri in 1785, Filippo Mazzei in 1792, Gioacchino Belli in 1829 and John Ruskin in 1840.
The Bed & Breakfast can be easily reached by car or public transport. It has its own entrance, is elegantly furnished and has satellite TV, air conditioning, and a kitchenette with fridge, sink and electric hotplates. Breakfast is provided at Caffè dell’Ussero on the ground floor below the B&B. Children under 6 years of age stay free, and the porter's lodge is open from 8:00 to 12:00. Your hosts speak English and French.

Then head out to explore - this bed and breakfast in Pisa is perfectly positioned for discovering this enchanting Italian city. You are in the historic centre of Pisa, 1km from the rail station, 1.5kms (5 minutes) from Pisa Airport, 80km (50 minutes) from Florence airport, 20km (15 minutes) from the coast at Livorno, and all can be reached by taxi. The natural park of San Rossore, Migliarino and Massaciuccoli is 3km out of town, the nearest beaches are 15km away. Versilia is 40km away, the Apennine Mountains 80km.
But first explore Pisa itself. This marvellous city possibly suffers by virtue of its most famous landmark - everybody has heard of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, but fewer realise that it is just one element of the superb Romanesque heart of the city, the Campo dei Miracoli. This 'field of miracles' comprises the Duomo (cathedral), the Baptistery and the Camposanto, and a dozen or more beautiful churches and mediaeval palazzos. The realisation of many of these buildings, in the Pisan Romanesque style which borrows so much from the Moorish architecture of Andalucia, is breathtaking - black and white marble facades and some of Italy’s finest sculpture of the mediaeval period.
