Le Coloniche is in the rural district of Serravalle Pistoiese, whose history dates back to the Middle Ages. There is a wealth of historical interest nearby, with the remains of Barbarossa's sixth century tower, and a twelfth century tower built by the soldier Castruccio Castracani.
Montecatini Terme is 5km away, Florence 31km, Pistoia 8km, Pisa 50km, Lucca and the Versilian coast both 40km, San Miniato 45km, Volterra 70km and Siena 99km.

There is Pistoia, a city rich with art, and with traditional shops and outdoor markets.
There is golf, tennis, horseriding and clay pigeon shooting. Or visit the spa Montecatini Terme for spa baths, massages, and treatments, as well as chic clothes shops. And the children will love spending a day with the cat and the fox, in the whale's stomach or with the blue fairy in the fantastic world of Pinocchio's park at Collodi.
There is the zoo at Pistoia where you can discover both the local and the exotic. And in July the city is completely transformed, culminating in the Pistoia Blues Festival, which attracts thousands of people.
Siena's famous Palio
Take a pre-dinner drink at sunset in the central square of Montecatini Alto, (reachable by funicular railway), then walk through the mediaeval towers to enjoy a splendid panoramic sunset.
Nature lovers can travel on foot, by bike, by horse or on skis, from the hills of Montalbano to the mountains of Abetone, passing through all the little mountain villages that still preserve and live the rural and farming traditions.
Then, after visiting all these wonderful places, return to Le Coloniche, a chat by the side of the pool, a game of cards in the tavern or a glass of wine in front of the fireplace.
