Siena Bed and Breakfast - Tuscany - holiday accommodation south of Siena. Near to the pretty town of Chianciano, this makes a great base for exploring this loveliest of Italian regions.
Montalcino is probably what many of us see when we dream of Tuscany. This is a typical Tuscan hill town, lying within a complete set of mediaeval walls, and beneath a spectacular castle. The town is unspoiled by modern building - you could be stepping back into 15th century Tuscany. Montalcino dominates the valley below, with its panoply of oak woods and orchards vineyards and olive groves.
Montepulciano meanwhile is well known to wine lovers. Built upon a narrow limestone ridge overlooking the plain of the Valdichiana, Montepulciano is rich in artworks as well as mediaeval, Renaissance and baroque buildings, palazzi and churches. The Corso is the main street of the town, rising to the main square, which itself sits astride the summit of the hill. Notable buildings include the Palazzo Communale, (a smaller version of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence), and the Duomo. The view from here is superb, as of course is the local vintage, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
