Sassaia is a rectangular
building with regular features built in the local albarese
stone. Next to the main house, a lower building has been converted into
a loft-like dependence. Climbing roses, hydrangea and honeysuckle as
well as lavender, different types of sage, rosemary and cistus roses
combine well with the local oaks and fruit trees. Meals can be taken under the large pergola covered in wisteria, roses and grapevines. A little further away lies the pool, which is well exposed to the sun and has been equipped with comfortable sun beds and deck chairs. The location of Sassaia makes excursions to Siena, Assisi, Orvieto, Perugia and Arezzo easy day trips. The area below Siena, stretching from the monastery of Monte Oliveto to Montalcino and Montepulciano offers many rewarding sites that are worth a visit. Montepulciano is a graceful hill town, best known for its Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Sant´Antimo and Pienza are jewels in the crown of Tuscany´s art history and should not be missed.
