The properties are strategically situated for exploring central Italy. Just 15km away is Cortona. One of the twelve cities that once comprised the Etruscan Federation, Cortona sits high on a hill above the Valdichiana. With spectacular views towards Lake Trasimeno, Monte Amiata and Castiglione Fiorentino, Cortona has long been a centre of art and is still noted for its cathedral, architecture and museums. The town is packed with quaint shops, good restaurants and pretty streets. Also 15km away, Montepulciano is a treasure house of mediaeval, Renaissance and Baroque palazzi and churches. A long, winding street called the Corso climbs up into the main square, which crowns the summit of the hill. Montepulciano is also a popular destination for bird watchers.

Arezzo, 30km away, dates back to the fourth century BC, and has preserved its architectural character behind 13th century walls. Perugia, 50km away, has been continuously inhabited for more than 25 centuries and contains many Etruscan and Roman remains. Siena is 60km away and is well worth a day’s exploring. It has a fine 12th century Cathedral in stunning black and white marble, and one of the oldest universities in the world, founded in 1240. Its Campo - the mediaeval square at the heart of the city - is famous for its Palio, the furious bare-backed horse-race which take place every year in July and August. You’ll find marvellous restaurants, cafes, bars and shops here.

And Florence, The home of Michaelangelo, Botticelli and the Medici, the hub of modern art and the centre of the Renaissance, lies 100km away.
