This is a stunning and quite unique holiday choice - accommodation in an old convent in Umbria, Italy, near Lake Trasimeno.
Set on a hill, amidst views of the splendid Umbrian countryside surrounding Lake Trasimeno, are the farmhouses “I Frati” (The Friars) - a quiet and friendly atmosphere.
This building complex is part of a larger property: a large farm of more than 210 hectares, operated with modern technologies and specialising in high-quality produce (wine, oil, cereals, fruits and so on). All farm products are available to guests.
The agritourism is in completely restored farmhouses and in a former convent structure (The Cloister “Il Convento”). These completely renovated farmhouses are surrounded by vast green spaces. The interiors are elegantly decorated and further enhanced by antiques and period furniture to keep the flavour of the old country houses. Il Convento dates back to the 15th century and has a colourful cloister and an old cellar. It is located beneath Monte Pietrarvella, 1.5km from Paciano and Panicale and right in the middle of a wood of about 18-20 hectares, of which about a square mile is surrounded by a boundary wall to limit the property of the Order. This building complex is made up of a part which had been left neglected after the closure of the convent, while another part (from the 19th century) was partially demolished. Nowadays this complex, preserved by the Ministry of Artistic and Cultural Heritage, includes the former church of the old convent, a former inhabited space and a part of the refectory - the whole being surrounded by greenery.

Il Convento is situated on the southern side of Lake Trasimeno (about 8km), and one can enjoy a beautiful view of the lake and the mountains. Towards the end of the summer of 2004, the restoration work on the whole complex were finished. The complex comprises sumptuously furnished flats reached via an internal lift, areas for meetings and banquets, parking lot, swimming pool (9 x 16 metres) with hydromassage, barbecue and a park through which one can walk, taking the same routes as the friars.
Fra Giocondo is a simple yet elegant apartment, furnished with antiques, period furniture and architraves and vaults as main features. It is located on the ground floor of the Convent, with external access and view over the park. Recommended also for families with children and elderly people. The rooms are elegant, with all facilities. It has a double room and living room with large sofa bed, so sleeps 2+2. Like all the accommodation, it has individual heating controls, satellite TV, fully equipped kitchen, with dishwasher, refrigerator and electric oven, a bathroom with hairdryer.
