This small agriturismo – farmhouse inn – has a spectacular setting in the forested hills and olive groves north of Assisi, Umbria. It offers Bed and Breakfast / short stay accommodation in a warm, welcoming, traditional setting.
The area around Assisi is one of great natural beauty, blanketed with olive groves and hardwood forests, and home to wild boar, hares, pheasants and countless species of birds: small wonder that it is most closely associated with Saint Francis.
Agriturismo Alla Madonna del Piatto dates back as far as the 13th century - a shepherds' fortification which was gradually extended and converted into its current state. Although abandoned, like many Umbrian smallholdings, during the late 20th century, a work of restoration was begun in 1997 - the traditionally-refurbished farmhouse is now at the heart of a small thriving farm producing top-class, pesticide-free olive oil.
The holiday accommodation has a sunny, south-facing aspect with superb views of Assisi's famous Basilica - home to some of Italy's most important mediaeval art. Other local attractions include Gubbio, Todi, Orvieto, Spoleto and Perugia. You can make easy excursions to Siena and the vineyards of Chianti, and daytrips to Urbino, Florence or Rome.
