There is much beautiful countryside nearby. Recently awarded Regional Park status, Lake Trasimeno and its islands provide an important eco-system offering a habitat for many migratory and non-migratory animals and birds.
As well as plenty for the naturalist, Italy's fourth largest lake is also surrounded by important man-made works. There are many hamlets and villages, most of medieval origin, which rise up along its inlets and in the surrounding areas nearby. You must see Castiglione del Lago, with its rock escarpment on the lake, as well as Passignano, Tuoro and the archaeological region, Città della Pieve and others. The town of Chiusi, with its Etruscan roots, has museums dedicated to this ancient civilization.
There is a vast network of pathways near to these Umbria vacation rentals, suitable for both the serious and the casual visitor, with short and longer routes on both foot and bicycle. The following excursions can easily be completed in a few hours or half a day.
The Lake Tour totals around 60km. This trip is also possible by bike along the cycle track. There are many small villages around the lake: Castiglione del Lago, Passignano, San Feliciano (with its fishing museum), Tuoro and the panoramic road to La Cima. In winter, there is also birdwatching at Oasi La Valle.
The Trasimeno islands include Isola Maggiore with its typical small village and the castle ruins; there are boats from Passignano and Tuoro (from Castiglione del Lago) during the summer. Isola Polvese is a nature park with castle and abbey ruins, and a beautiful natural environment. There are boats from San Feliciano (in good weather).
And nearby these Umbria vacation rentals are medieval towns such as Castiglione del Lago, Panicale, Paciano, Città della Pieve and Corciano. The beautiful town of Cortona is half an hour away, over the border in Tuscany. Montepulciano, also in Tuscany, is 30 minutes’ drive away.
A few minutes drive away is the Etruscan area of Chiusi, with its museum, tombs, catacombs and labyrinth. The old centre is also very attractive.
Some longer excursions might include easy day trips to Florence and Rome, by car or by train. Perugia and Assisi make a nice day out, with a 40km drive to Perugia, plus 20 more to Assisi. Siena is less than an hour’s drive. And If you leave early in the morning, you can also take in the medieval towns of Monteriggioni and San Gimignano. Other ideas include a trip to Todi and Orvieto, or to Gubbio and Spoleto.

La Via del Sacrantino takes in the wine route and the lovely towns of Montefalco and Bevagna. There are trips to La Valnerina and the Marmore Waterfalls (please check the timetable) and along the little Nera River to Norcia and Cascia.
Arezzo meanwhile has much to see, including a major antiques market the first weekend of every month.
