Veneto (Venetia) is a fascinating part of Italy - a land of contrasts with its head in the Dolomites and Alps and its feet in the Po valley and the Adriatic.
Steeped in history, the area recovered from Attila the Hun's attentions and - dominated by Venice - grew over more than 1000 years into one of the wealthiest, most powerful republics in the world with a rich linguistic and cultural heritage and a stranglehold on trade with the Orient. Bounced briefly between Napoleon and Austria, it rejoined Italy in 1866 but retains a fascinating, complex mixture of cultural influences.
With the ancient cities of Venice, Verona and Padua, the crystal blue waters of Lake Garda, mountain spas and winter sports, and the sprawling plains of the Po Valley, Veneto has something for everybody...
