This part of Tuscany is steeped in history - explore and you'll find
ancient celtic standing stones, Etruscan remains, Roman ruins and countless
mediaeval castles, churches and villages. The local hills are famous for
their marble quarries (Michelangelo got his materials here) and the wildlife
is rich and varied. To the north lie the nature reserves of the Garfagnana
and to the south and east lie the cities of art - Pisa and Lucca are both
easily reached by car.
